Nanoscale isotopic evidence resolves origins of giant Carlin-type ore deposits

چکیده

Abstract The western North American Great Basin's Carlin-type deposits represent the largest accumulation of gold in Northern Hemisphere. controversy over their origins echoes debate between Neptunists and Plutonists at birth modern geology: were causative processes meteoric or magmatic? Sulfur isotopes have long been considered key to decoding metal cycling Earth's crust, but previous studies pyrite lacked spatial resolution quantify differences among numerous generations sulfide mineralization. We developed a new dual-method, nanoscale approach examine fine-grained ore pyrite. ?34S varies systematically with Au concentration nanoscale, indicating that both magmatic fluids contributed during mineralization, magmas brought gold. Repeated oscillations fluid ratios upgraded content, resulting high endowment. Our results demonstrate high-spatial-resolution are elucidate spatiotemporal evolution complex hydrothermal systems.

New Genetic Evidence Resolves Origins of Modern Japanese.

Was there a single migration event or gradual mixing of cultures that gave rise to modern Japanese? According to current theory, about 2,000–3,000 years ago, two populations, the hunter-gatherer Jomon from the Japanese archipelago and the agricultural Yayoi from continental East Asia, intermingled to give rise to the modern Japanese population. However, some researchers have suggested otherwise...

Rb-Sr dating of sphalerites from Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) ore deposits

Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) ore deposits arc epigenetic carbonate-hosted Pb-Zn deposits that contain galena, sphalerite, fluorite, bar&e, dolomite, calcite, and quartz. Although they are thought to form from basinal brines, their exact origins are still unclear, partly because of the scarcity of reliable geochronological data. Rb-Sr dating of sphalerites has recently been shown to be a promis...

Origin and significance of aromatic hydrocarbons in giant iron ore deposits of the late Archean Hamersley Basin, Western Australia

Late Archean to earliest Paleoproterozoic shales associated with two giant iron ore deposits in the Hamersley Province, Western Australia, contain traces of solvent extractable saturated and aromatic hydrocarbons. The host rocks belong to the 2.5 billion years (Ga) old Mt McRae Shale and Brockman Iron Formation, Hamersley Group, and were collected in mines near Tom Price and Newman (Mt Whalebac...
